The protected area of the argentinean sea has tripled

A law passed by both chambers of the National Congress declared two new Protected Areas in the Argentine Sea. This way, Argentina triples its marine protected area and thus concretize the greatest advance in history towards the conservation of its sea.

National Geographic released the documentary “Yaganes”

National Geographic presented the documentary “Yaganes”. The audiovisual piece shows the result of an unprecedented expedition, carried out by National Geographic’s conservation initiative Pristine Seas, to the Argentine zone of Tierra del Fuego, Isla de los Estados and the oceanic part of the Drake passage, known as the Yaganes basin.

Declaration of Mar del Plata: Marine Protected Areas NOW

Argentine member organizations of the Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea and Areas of Influence, meeting in Mar del Plata during their XVI Plenary Session, ask the honorable Chamber of Deputies of Argentina for the urgent treatment of the bill for the CREATION OF THE PROTECTED MARINE AREAS NAMUNCURA – BURDWOOD BANK II AND YAGANES before the close of its regular sessions scheduled for November 21, 2018, in order to avoid the loss of its parliamentary status and the breach of the commitments made regarding marine conservation.

Strategic meeting convened more than twenty organizations for the conservation of the Patagonian Sea

Marine Protected Areas, pollution of seas and coastal areas, and salmon farming were some of the themes discussed by the near 40 representatives from more than 20 civil society organizations from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay from the integrated approach proposed by the Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea. The meeting took place during the 16th plenary session of the network, from 6 to 9 November in Mar del Plata.

Seminar on Fisheries and Marine Protected Areas

In order to generate a space where the academic, business and government sectors, and civil society organizations could meet and exchange ideas regarding the management of fisheries in Marine Protected Areas (MPA), the Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea invited fishing companies, authorities, researchers, civil society organizations and the media to a seminar held on November 8 in the city of Mar del Plata.

“Yaganes”, a NatGeo Documentary about a future argentine MPA

For its content and opportunity, the documentary “Yaganes” could contribute to the treatment of the draft Law for the creation of the Yaganes and Namuncurá / Banco Burdwood 2 National Marine Parks, which is currently in the Argentine Nation Congress. These areas would triple the protected area of Argentine Sea.

The Forum supported the 2018 edition of the Patagonia Eco Film Fest

The Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea backed the 3rd edition of the International Environmental Film Festival of Patagonia. Over four days, more than 4,000 spectators took part in this activity that aims at motivating audiences and generate debates, an idea synthesized as “see to raise awareness”. Same as in previous editions, all PEFF activities were free of charge.
