World Oceans Day 2020

World Oceans Day 2020 1920 1080 The Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea

On World Ocean Day, the Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea calls for increased protection of the marine ecosystem. They warn that greater efforts will be needed to conserve the diversity of life forms and the natural integrity of the sea, and the neccesity to integrate efforts, work at scale and cooperate.

The pandemic caused by #COVID19 highlights the need to conserve natural systems around the world. It indicates the inextricable link between human health and environmental health. It reflects that no economy can be sustained in a weakened nature. And it shows that it is possible to prioritize care for life over other value systems.

We must consider the needs of species diversity. We form a unit closely connected and indivisible with nature, it is not possible to live without it; the sea is part of it, the human being is part of it. Not attending to the requirements of other forms of life has ethical implications and ends up having consequences on the system, which were and still are warned.

It is time to intensify the protection of the ecosystem, with special emphasis on the marine ecosystem. Further efforts will be needed to conserve the diversity of life forms and their natural integrity. It is clear and necessary to integrate efforts, work at scale and cooperate.
