Marine Protected Areas of the Southern Cone
About the cycle: 2021
Webinar 1 - Best MPAs in the region
Webinar 2 - Towards an effective conservation network
About the cycle: 2021
Webinars seek to contribute to the dialogue on marine protected areas (MPAs) under the challenge of generating representative systems of environmental heterogeneity capable of sustaining themselves in the face of climate change. The participants were referents of the institutions committed to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity, both governmental and academic and civil society.
Access here to the series of documents on MPAs from Argentina and Chile that inspired these meeting:
The first webinar Best Marine Protected Areas in the region had the participation of Graciela Camaño, National Argentinian Congress, Jorge Flies, Governor of the Magallanes region in Chile, and Eglé Flores, Senior Advisor for Packard Foundation.
In the second seminary Towards an effective conservation network they participated Waldemar Coutts, director of Environment and Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Purificació Canals, doctor in biological sciences and president of the Mediterranean Network of Managers of Marine Protected Areas, Gilberto Sales, specialist in protected area management, analyst at the Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of Biodiversity (ICMBIO) and the TAMAR Center, and Lucía Bartesaghi, director of the National System of Protected Areas (SNAP) in Uruguay.
