Oil Spill Modeling in the San Matías Gulf, Argentina.
2025

Conducted within the framework of a project by the Energy Working Group of the Foro para la Conservación del Mar Patagónico y Áreas de Influencia, this publication—prepared by WCS Argentina—provides critical information on the potential behavior of oil spills in the waters and along the coasts of the San Matías Gulf. This threat arises from the implementation of new oil infrastructure in Punta Colorada, Río Negro Province, Argentina.

The report highlights the ecological vulnerability of the Gulf and the urgent need to incorporate scientific evidence into decision-making processes in order to prevent severe impacts on key ecosystems, local economies, and marine biodiversity. Furthermore, it serves as a science-based tool for risk communication and public awareness regarding extractive projects in environmentally sensitive areas.
