We promote education in conservation values, highlighting empathy as a driving force to protect marine biodiversity and its habitats. We foster environmental awareness and the lasting commitment of the region’s communities to the conservation of the Patagonian Sea.
The Patagonian Sea and its areas of influence, shared by Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil, constitute a unique and vulnerable ecosystem. Its conservation depends not only on direct actions, but also on a profound transformation in the environmental awareness of the communities living in this region.
The Forum for the Conservation of the Patagonian Sea and Areas of Influence considers that education is a fundamental pillar to achieve a significant change in environmental awareness, promoting the adoption of conservation values and conscious action in defense of this ecosystem.
For this reason, it seeks to create synergies among the Forum’s organizations to develop educational programs that benefit the communities, promoting cooperation and the exchange of knowledge. This collaboration has the potential to strengthen educational capacities in the region and generate a lasting impact on the environmental awareness of new generations.
While students from coastal and rural communities in the region face different challenges in accessing environmental education, the natural protected areas surrounding these communities offer a unique opportunity to connect with the biodiversity of marine ecosystems. It is critical to create educational opportunities that allow students and teachers to develop a deeper connection with their natural environment, fostering an understanding of the value of ecosystems and the need to protect them.
Environmental education based on real-life experiences, including initiatives such as workshops, nature activities and, when possible, visits to Natural Protected Areas (NPAs), is crucial for shaping pro-environmental attitudes and promoting the adoption of sustainable practices in communities.

The region’s environmental challenges, such as overexploitation of marine resources, pollution and the impacts of climate change, require an educational approach that includes coastal communities, students, educators and decision makers. In response, the Forum has developed a strategy that combines knowledge sharing, educator training, and the creation of shared resources to strengthen educational capacities in the region.
The Forum implements and promotes various strategic actions to strengthen the environmental education approach in the region, with the objective of generating a lasting impact. Among these initiatives are:
Through workshops and periodic meetings, we promote the exchange of knowledge and best practices among member organizations. These spaces for dialogue allow us to enrich environmental education strategies and generate creative solutions to the challenges facing the conservation of the Patagonian Sea and its areas of influence.
We focus on strengthening the capacities of environmental educators through training programs that cover key areas, such as measuring educational impact and integrating conservation values into curricula. These programs allow our network members to improve their pedagogical and methodological skills, favoring high-quality conservation education.
The Working Group continues to develop new initiatives that seek to broaden the scope of environmental education in the region. The online platform continues to grow, incorporating new resources and facilitating access to educational materials for an ever wider audience. Knowledge-sharing workshops and in-house trainings are also becoming an essential part of the Group’s work, with a continued focus on improving educator training and collaboration between organizations.
Collaborative work among Forum member organizations is a key component of the success of the Environmental Education Working Group. Through the network, knowledge exchange, co-creation of projects, and the search for innovative solutions to the region’s challenges are facilitated.
